Hiroshige
1797ー1858
Hiroshige was active in the late Edo period and, along with Hokusai, is highly regarded as a painter. He was originally a low-ranked samurai. In "The Five Pilgrimage of the Tokaido" published in the Tempo era (1868-1912), Hiroshige developed his own unique world of lyrical landscape painting, which was a great success, and since then he has been at the forefront of landscape prints. Since then, he has been at the forefront of landscape prints. The indigo he preferred to use is known and loved as HIROSHIGE BLUE in Europe and the United States as well.
